Make a bigger impact
Planned Giving
We'd love to talk with you about how easy it can be to make a lasting gift that helps young children and families in Johnson County thrive for years to come.
Planned giving doesn't have to be complicated or costly. It can be as simple as:
- Naming Growing Futures as a beneficiary on a life insurance policy or retirement account
- Including us in your will or trust
- Setting up a transfer-on-death or payable-on-death designation on a bank account, brokerage account, or piece of real estate
Whatever the size or type of gift, it helps ensure kids in our community have the strong start they deserve. We're always happy to talk through what makes sense for you.
If you're including us in your will or trust, here's some sample language to share with your attorney:
For an unrestricted gift (lets us put the funds toward our most pressing needs):
"I give to Growing Futures Early Education Center, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 8155 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose."
For a gift toward a specific purpose:
"I give to Growing Futures Early Education Center, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 8155 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as Growing Futures Early Education Center determines that the need exists. If Growing Futures Early Education Center shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists, or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then Growing Futures Early Education Center may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above."
IRA Rollovers
If you have an IRA and are 70 ½ or older, you can make a qualified charitable distribution directly to Growing Futures from your IRA, without paying income taxes on the money. The transfer doesn't count as taxable income or a tax deduction, so it works out in your favor even if you don't itemize.
By giving this way, you're helping young children in Johnson County get the strong early start they need to thrive, while making the most of your own finances. We're happy to work with you and your tax advisor to figure out what makes sense.
Please talk with your legal and tax advisors about what's right for your situation. This isn't intended as legal or tax advice.
Gifts of Stock
Giving stock you've held for more than a year can actually be a smarter move than giving cash. You get a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock, and you avoid paying capital gains tax on any growth since you bought it.
It's a great way to support young children and families in our community while making the most of your own finances. Talk with your financial or tax advisor to see if it's the right fit for you.
